Here's Everything We Know About the New iPhones

the New iPhones

It's been a decade since the iconic and game-changing iPhone's initial debut, and to mark its anniversary, Apple has unveiled three new versions: the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the all-new iPhone X.
The iPhone 8 is similar to what many people have, but it features a new glass and aluminum design, Retina HD displays, new single and dual cameras with support for portrait lighting, wireless charging and is more optimized than ever for augmented reality.

The iPhone X, which they call "the future of the smartphone," will be the new flagship iPhone. The X is an all-glass design with a 5.8-inch Super Retina display that packs all of the features of the iPhone 8 and more.

Here's a rundown on the new iPhone features we're most excited about in The Good Housekeeping Institute.

1. The home button on the iPhone X is gone.

True to buzz leading up to the announcement, there is no longer a physical home button. Now, to wake up your phone you can simply raise it up or tap on the screen. To get the classic functionality of the home button, simply swipe up from the bottom. You can chat to Siri to activate her or press the side button in.
Instead of the home button, nearly all of the frontal real estate goes to the screen, minus a notch for some necessary items like a front camera and speaker. Otherwise, the majority is a 5.8" OLED screen with a super retina display. Apple claims it goes from edge to edge, top to bottom, though it's a little shy of that. We haven't tested it out in our labs yet, but we expect the screen to be super responsive, yet still fit comfortably in your hand.

2. You'll be able to use your face to unlock the iPhone X.

Face ID learns your face and will be able to recognize you to unlock your phone – whether it be day or night. The facial recognition is made possible by using a combination of hardware and super-intelligent software to make the recognition nearly foolproof. Apple claims the chance of a random person looking at your phone and unlocking it is around 1 in 1,000,000 (unless of course you have an evil identical twin or doppelgänger lurking). Face ID will work with Apple Pay as well as third party apps for user authentication, as well.

3. You can send new animated emojis called animojis.

The new iPhone X lets you pick from a dozen emojis and then, using the new facial recognition and tracking capabilities, will map your facial expression to them. So if you smile, so will your emoji. You frown, it frowns. Your texting just got even more animated.

4. You'll be able to charge your device wirelessly.

All three new phones work with an established Qi platform, so you'll be able to use wireless charging mats from the likes of Belkin and Mophie. Apple has also designed their own, called AirPower, that can be used for charging, but that won't be available until next year. With Apple's mat, you'll be able to simultaneously charge up to three Apple devices, including an Apple Watch Series 3, a new charging case for AirPods and an iPhone 8, 8 Plus or X.

5. It's not cheap.

With all of the upgraded features to the processor, display, photo and video enhancements, augmented reality (AR) capabilities and wireless charging functionality, the price tag is also going up. The new iPhone X will start at $999 and the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will start around $699 and $799 respectively.

How to buy:
